Participants dressed only in loincloths pour cold water over themselves during the traditional Cold-Endurance Purification Ceremony (Kanchu-Misogi) at Kanda Myojin Shrine on January 15, 2022, in Tokyo, Japan. This year, about 20 participants braved the ice bath ritual, a traditional ceremony known to purify the soul and bring good luck.
